Digital Painting: Using Photoshop
We will be creating a digital landscape concept illustration for a narration of your choice.
Once you have your image selected, you will need to create an 8x10" or 10x8" document in Photoshop with a 300 or higher resolution. You will be saving your working file as a .psd (Photoshop file) and when you submit, it will need to be a .jpg.
Begin by creating several core foundation layers. If you have a digital copy of your image, you can use the eye dropper tool to select these foundation colors. Don't be afraid to make different parts of your composition in different layers. It's much easier to change specific parts if they are isolated. Experiment with different brushes, each one has different textures, and don't be afraid to use the Brush Panel to adjust these brushes (found under the Window men). There are also downloadable presets that you can use.
Build these layers by adding more detail as you go along. Opacity and Flow are going to help you in this process. If you would prefer to work with a stylus, you are encouraged to do so. I have several you are welcome to use, but it is a first come-first serve. If you have one from home, you can use it as well.

Composition: 10 pts--Placement, overall use of space and balance, correct size of document
Color: 5 pts--Use of 10 or more colors within the composition, in same palette/color scheme.
Use of Brush: 5 pts--Experimentation and intentional use of a variety of brushes, scale and opacity.
Completion: 5 pts--How thorough and 'finished' is the work, attention to detail and sense of depth
Participation: 5 pts--Positive citizenship and diligent with classwork, active participant in class discussions
Creativity: 10 pts--Original idea, not duplicated pixel for pixel.
